Sixpoint Jammer Event at Woodbines in LIC

On Tuesday, August 9th from 6 - 8 PM, we will be throwing it back to the '90s at Woodbines with food and drink specials featuring Sixpoint’s Jammer, a uniquely refreshing Gose beer. We’ll have specialty cocktails featuring the brew and food specials honoring everyone’s favorite decade. Read on for all the info about the event, what exactly a gose even is, and Sixpoint’s delicious take on the type.
What is a Gose?
Goses take their name from the salty Gose river in Germany, along which they were first made. Original brewers used the briny river water to create a unique savory and tart flavor profile. These first goses were fermented spontaneously, meaning no additional yeast was added, making way for a truly special, slightly sour taste. To balance this savory and tangy flavor, they were also seasoned with coriander.
History of the Gose
Gose beers have an interesting history that almost reads like fiction. This particular style of brewing died out and was
resurrected several times in the past few hundred years. Believed to have been born sometime in the 16th century, it was going strong until World War II, when the last gose-producing brewery closed. Just a few years later however, a brewer named Friedrich Wurzler revived the beer and passed the recipe on to his stepson. But, the stepson died only a few years after that. The brewing records were somehow lost and gose stopped being made again! Finally, in the 80s, a man named Lothar Goldhahn was reopening a famous German pub and wanted to serve traditional gose. With almost no information to go on, he began going around to bars asking drinkers to describe the flavor of the brew so that he could get a brewery to accurately recreate it. Finally, in 1986, gose made by the Schultheiss Berliner-Weisse-Brauerei (!) brewery entered the market. Since then many breweries both in Europe and America have gotten in on that salty-sweet action.
Sixpoint’s Version
Sixpoint has been perfecting the recipe for Jammer since 2011, and now uses the salty water of Netart’s Bay in Oregon, procured through the Jacobsen Salt Co., for their tart and refreshing brew. It’s a uniquely sour yet infinitely drinkable beer. With a reasonable ABV of 4%, you could sip this all day long.
On Tuesday, August 9th, we’ll be featuring Sixpoint’s delicious gose on tap and in specialty cocktails (for just $5) that make the most of the beer’s unique flavor. Oh, and everything will be 90s themed. We’ll also have $5 food specials and, of course, tons of your favorite throwback music.
