LIC, Emerging Beer Capital of Queens

Long Island city is quickly becoming a beer lover's paradise. With several established breweries and new ones popping up all the time, LIC is the destination for craft beer enthusiasts. From summery sours to bold porters and stouts, our neighborhood really knows how to do it.  And with summer finally here, there's no better time to grab a local brew. At Woodbines we’re proud to support our neighborhood breweries and always have something from nearby to offer! Read on to learn all about your local LIC breweries.

Big Alice Brewing, 808 43rd Rd.

Definitely a local favorite, Big Alice is a "nano-brewery".  This means that they produce extremely small batches of beer, allowing them to be extra experimental.  They also only use ingredients sourced from farms in New York State.  Their taproom is open Wednesday through Sunday so that gives you plenty of opportunity to visit.  Some notable brews they have at the moment are the Galena Single Hop Blended Sour and the LIC Native White Stout, brewed in collaboration with Native Coffee Roasters.  We blew through a keg of the Native White at Woodbines in no time!

Rockaway Brewing Company, 46-01 5th St.

The founders of Rockaway started making beer in their backyards back in the brewery’s namesake neighborhood.  Now, they are LIC locals quickly becoming known for their excellent brews.  One of our favorites is their flagship ESB; a mellow, malty beer with a hint of sweetness.  For this season they are releasing DaBeach, a summer session ale.  They are also planning an expansion into a few new locations; one in Ridgewood and two in the Rockaways!  Woodbines offers their signature ESB in a pint-sized can as a staple on our list.

Transmitter Brewing, 53-02 11th St.

Rob and Anthony from Transmitter are longtime friends whose passion for experimentation has really paid off.  Their focus is on traditional and farmhouse ales and they have an amazing collection of traditional Belgian, French, English, and American yeasts. Contact them to book a tour!  A couple of their notable brews on tap right now are the Belgian-style Transmitter A2 and the Transmitter H4 Sour Plum.

LIC Beer Project, 39-28 23rd St.

A relative newcomer to the neighborhood, LIC Beer Project has certainly made a name for themselves with their unique, boutique beers.  Notable beers on tap at the moment include The Modern Aberration Pale Ale, fermented with Brettanomyces yeast.  At Woodbines we recently had their lovely farmhouse Grisette.

Have any favorites you’d like to see at Woodbines?  Drop in and let us know.  Our draft lineup is always changing to include the best local brews.
